Sparrow & Starling Traps
The killing of any bird seems unfortunate, and most species are protected under law. There are some who feel, however, that trapping and killing invasive non-protected species like the House Sparrow and European Starling is justified - and a necessity. Because these species pose a threat to native species, most notably the Bluebird, there are several groups today who promote the euthanasia of House Sparrows and European Starlings. It is important for citizens to note that although federal law states that House Sparrows and European Starlings are non-protected species, state and local laws may override the federal, and provide protection. In some places a license will be needed to trap and kill these birds. It is also important to note that this is a contentious issue, which many people have strong feelings about. Even those who feel it necessary to control these populations may find the actual killing too difficult to do.
Those interested in controlling the populations of aggressive birds like House Sparrows and European Starlings may be interested in the Deluxe Repeating Sparrow Traps sold by SparrowTraps.net. This product is considered to be one of the best for the task of capturing not only House Sparrows but European Starlings as well.
