Roger Tory Peterson and The Modern Field Guide.
The two go hand in glove at Cape May.
Roger Tory Peterson died in 1996. At the time he was working on the fifth edition of A Field Guide to the Birds of Eastern and Central North America. Peterson was also a driving force behind what came to be called the World Series of Birding. He led his team to top honors in Cape May at the inaugural event first called “The Big Stay.” In 1996 his team recorded 201 species in 24 hours.
